Our Approach

SW Education & Care (SWEC) believe all children and young people should be provided with opportunities to achieve socially, emotionally and academically, whatever their individual barriers to success.

Putting children at the centre of all we do

In all our homes, SWEC team members are well trained and experienced, putting the children and young people in their care at the centre of all they do.

We work with local education providers and local authorities, to ensure attendance at school, college or other suitable provision, that best meets the needs of the young person in our care. Where necessary, SWEC also provide tuition from qualified teachers, for those children not accessing education, until a suitable placement can be found.

Personalised Support

By providing personalised support to meet the needs of each individual, SWEC enable children to develop trusting relationships and, build the key skills, strength and resilience, to promote their personal wellbeing and a secure future.

Each SWEC home has a staff team developed to help meet the specific needs of each child.  We work with the young person and professionals that support them, to ensure the best opportunities are accessed and enhanced, to help each child realise their potential.

Our Trauma Recovery Model (TRM)

Trauma comes in many forms and the effects are far reaching, and every child is different in their experience and response. The children and young people in our care will have suffered extensive trauma and recovery will take time. For many children, recognition of the effects of chaotic or unsafe early lives is painful and, without support, are unable to heal.

Our Trauma Recovery Model (TRM) depicts SWEC's approach to trauma recovery and how we support young people through their individual journeys.  Every child deserves to thrive and this model’s approach allows individualised care and support for this to happen, with facilitation from our highly trained and devoted staff teams.

Our TRM was created as a synthesis of models, informed by the body of work of Dr B Perry; PACE (Hughes); trauma informed parenting (National Child Traumatic Stress Network); attachment aware support (Mead, Treisman and others); and Person Centred practice (Rogers).  The drop downs below are not an exhaustive list: Every person is individual, with individual needs, manifestations and recovery strategies.

As I left your beautiful home today I felt many emotions ranging from relief and happiness, and I realised that if I was feeling like that X must be feeling similar and more. I am so relieved that your team has chosen to have X. You are a wonderful group of professionals and humans clearly trying to make a difference to young peoples lives.
